Good location, but it is not situated in Jurmala . Location was great and view from the apartment/restaurant is beautiful. Great Hotel with plenty of Latvian History both modern and back to the Soviet era! Breakfast did not start until 9am but we were able to get an early morning walk in before Breakfast. We are waiting for next years bookings to open up so we can book for another short break. The two-story room was great, very beautiful, spacious and getting a lot of sun. The hotel staff was amazing, very helpful and polite .

It starts with a booking

The guy in reception was extremely helpfull with information around the area. Excelent value for the money and close to the Kemeri Viru bog footpath if you plan to go to watch sunruse or sunset. Wonderful breakfasts, staff, good tidy rooms, lovely big pool with seawater and great saunas in excellent condition. While Latvia was part of the Soviet Union, Jūrmala was a favorite holiday-resort and tourist destination for high-level Communist Party officials, particularly Leonid Brezhnev and Nikita Khrushchev. Although many amenities such as beach-houses and concrete hotels remain, some have fallen into disrepair.

In 1949 this district was enlarged to include Priedaine. Finally, in 1959 the district of Jūrmala was removed from the city of Riga and merged with the health resorts Sloka and Ķemeri to establish Jūrmalas pilsēta (City of Jūrmala). In publications dating from the Soviet period, the city name was occasionally spelled in English as “Yurmala”, a back-transliteration from Russian Юрмала.

Jurmala is a beautiful seaside town about 1 hr drive from Riga, depending on traffic. Miles and miles of fine sandy beaches with at least 100m of shallow seashore for paddling with children and swimming further out. Jurmala centre beach site is busy in summer but still has space for everyone with lovely beach cafes serving tasty snacks and cocktails. Therefore, it has a good beachfront and lots of cafes in the summer. It’s enjoyable if you’re lucky with the weather. Hotel staff are similarly, a hit-and-miss affair.

Overall this is a very cosy hotel with a gorgeous design and a great location . I definitely recommend it and I would love to come back one day. In Soviet times Jūrmala was popular with the Communist officials because of its beach and sanatoriums – holidays were also given as rewards for top union members. It became one of the most popular holiday destinations in the whole Union. The spas offered facilities from mud baths to riding therapy and hiking in the woods.

The Dzintari watchtower at 33.5 meters high, soars past the pine trees with a large viewing platform at the top allowing tall distant objects to be seen such as the Riga Radio and TV Tower. Throughout the entire height of the watchtower a total of 12 platforms are formed, overlooking all directions. In Majori and Bulduri, where the Blue Flag flies, it is possible to rent water bicycles or relax in the beach cafe.
